A former American diplomat, a foreign policy expert, observed, "Putin is trying to disrupt the progress toward increased sanctions on the Kremlin." Fried continued, "The outcome will become clear on Friday, but the likelihood of moving toward a truce by pushing Russia to engage sincerely appear to have decreased."

The situation followed Trump had in recent days been hardening his rhetoric toward Moscow until Thursday's call with the Russian president, which the Russian government characterized as "extremely frank and trustful."

European Energy Sanctions and Economic Effects

Military Situation and Infrastructure Strikes

A large-scale Moscow's drone and rocket attack targeted gas facilities in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, causing disruptions in eight regions. Ukrainian officials stated that Russian forces deployed numerous of unmanned vehicles and many of missiles, along with glide bombs.
