The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues

Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “harming young minds” by telling students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.

During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.

“I expect a walkout by educators very quickly after winning the next general election,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.

“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this negative culture.”

In response to these assertions, Daniel Kebede rejected the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.

“Farage has built his political career on coded rhetoric and currently, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a conflict,” the union leader said.

“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would undermine state services, including education … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”

Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.

However, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with education – absolutely herculean. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”

He stated that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.

Honoring a conservative activist, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”

Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.

The politician has charged the union head with being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned at school, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.

Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.

National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for children.

At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of youth to your online courses. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”

The college, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
