The acclaimed English actor Helen Mirren, already winner of an Oscar, four Baftas, three Golden Globes, multiple Emmy accolades, plus a Tony, is poised to receive another prestigious accolade to her trophy case: the Cecil B DeMille Golden Globe lifetime honor.

Award Event

Dame Helen, eighty, previously given a damehood during 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow back in 2014, will pick up the award during a presentation on the eighth of January, shortly before the Golden Globes main event occur, within an event billed by the Golden Globes as Golden Eve.

Additionally featuring the presentation of the organization’s Carol Burnett honor for television achievement, whose winner remains unannounced. Last year’s winners featured Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Helen Mirren is a force of nature, and her professional journey is absolutely exceptional,” said the Golden Globes president, the Globes’ leader. “Her brilliant portrayals and commitment to her craft persistently influence countless performers and audiences alike. It’s a tremendous privilege to present her with the Cecil B DeMille award.”

Career Highlights

The star rose to fame in the 1970s with key roles in stage productions at London’s West End and with the Royal Shakespeare Company and in cinematic works like O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.

Back in the 90s, her prominent part in detective drama Prime Suspect increased her popularity significantly. Additional notable movies comprise Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She received an Oscar for her performance as the Queen in the cinematic work The Queen, a part she returned to during 2013 in The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play about the meetings between the queen and prime minister Thatcher, a performance for which Mirren won a Tony back in 2015.

• Upcoming, audiences will see Mirren as Patricia Highsmith in the drama by Anton Corbijn, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nods will be declared on 8 December, including Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
